Senior Payroll Officer
Ayrshire | Full-Time | Permanent Salary: c. £40,000 DOE

Our client, a well-established business with an excellent reputation in Ayrshire, is seeking a Senior Payroll Officer to join their finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the payroll function within a growing organisation, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting continuous improvements across payroll processes and compliance.
The Role
Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for managing end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring compliance with payroll legislation and providing an excellent service to employees across the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Processing monthly & weekly end-to-end payroll for up to 400 employees
- Managing payroll queries and providing support to employees and managers
- Administering starters, leavers, contractual changes and statutory payments
- Ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, pensions and payroll legislation
- Reconciling payroll reports and maintaining accurate payroll records
- Preparing payroll journals and supporting month-end reporting
- Managing relationships with external payroll providers where applicable
- Producing payroll reports and analysis for leadership teams
- Supporting audits and ensuring robust payroll controls are maintained
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiencies
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience in an end-to-end payroll position
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing
- Experience with Sage Payroll would be advantageous
- Excellent understanding of payroll legislation, statutory payments and pensions
- Experience dealing with payroll reconciliations and reporting
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage workloads effectively and meet strict deadlines
- Experience using payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
