Technical Director – Ecology (Environmental Consultancy)
Location: Glasgow or Edinburgh
Salary: £58,000–£68,000 + bonus
A leading global sustainability consultancy is seeking an experienced Technical Director (Ecology) to join their established UK & European ecology team. This senior role focuses on delivering ecological inputs to major, complex, multi-sector projects across power, mining & minerals, built environment and wider infrastructure.
The organisation operates with a collaborative, people-first culture and is known for delivering high-profile environmental and infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally.
The Role
You will lead ecological project delivery from early planning through to completion, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include:
- Technical and project leadership across complex ecology projects
- Client management, relationship building and support with proposals/business development
- Mentoring and coaching junior and mid-level ecologists
- Collaboration with internal specialists (planning, hydrology, landscape, noise, air quality)
- Desk-based technical work plus UK site visits and occasional international travel
- Opportunities to work alongside Environmental & Earth Sciences, Planning, ESIA, Engineering and Global Advisory teams
This role offers significant exposure to major UK and international developments, with the chance to influence project strategy and ecological delivery at a senior level.

About You
You will bring:
- Extensive experience delivering UK ecology projects (ideally consultancy, multi-sector)
- Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or related field
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven business development and client relationship experience
- Membership of CIEEM (or equivalent)
- Excellent reporting, communication and problem-solving skills
- Passion for high-quality ecological delivery and mentoring
- Full UK driving licence
