Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)
Location: Aberdeenshire (Hybrid / Remote with monthly team meet-ups)
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000
About the Role
We are seeking an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to join the Scottish division of a major global consultancy. Despite being part of a worldwide business, the Scotland team is small (under 15 people), tight-knit and highly collaborative. The culture combines the support and resources of a global organisation with the familiarity and friendliness of a small team.
You’ll primarily work remotely, with regular daily team contact and monthly in-person catch-ups to stay connected. This is a great opportunity for an ECoW who values autonomy, flexibility and being part of a genuinely supportive group.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will oversee ecological compliance and provide on-site ecological advice across a diverse portfolio of projects, including:
- Small-scale residential refurbishments
- Larger infrastructure and commercial schemes
- MOD and secure defence projects
- Ecological monitoring, auditing and construction-phase support
No two days look the same - you’ll experience a wide breadth of ecological challenges and environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as ECoW during construction phases to ensure ecological compliance
- Monitoring activities in line with ecological mitigation, protected species licences and CEMPs
- Delivering site checks, audits and clear reporting
- Providing practical ecological advice to contractors and project teams
- Identifying risks or non-compliance and working collaboratively to resolve issues
- Assisting with ecological survey work where required
Who We’re Looking For
You will thrive in this role if you are:
- Experienced as an ECoW, Ecologist, or ecological site practitioner
- Confident advising contractors and engaging with on-site teams
- Comfortable working independently while staying connected to a supportive team
- Interested in both small local projects and large, secure MOD environments
- Strong in communication, organisation and ecological judgement
Experience with protected species, construction ecology or ecological mitigation is highly beneficial.
What’s on Offer
- £35,000 – £45,000 salary, depending on experience
- Primarily remote role with monthly team meet-ups
- Join a global consultancy while enjoying a friendly, close-knit Scottish team feel
- Supportive culture with daily communication and shared problem-solving
- Exposure to diverse and interesting ecological projects
- Strong opportunities for career development and progression
If you’re an Ecological Clerk of Works looking for a varied role, excellent flexibility, and a genuinely supportive team environment, we’d love to hear from you.
