About the Opportunity
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, the consultancy is looking for a Technical Director to lead its northern ecology team based in Inverness.
This role will play a key part in leading and developing ecological services across the Highlands, Islands and North East. Working closely with senior leadership, you will help drive:
- Team development and mentoring
- Technical excellence
- Business development and client engagement
- Project delivery and commercial performance
You will collaborate with senior colleagues across multiple disciplines and regions, contributing to a “one-team” approach and supporting cross-functional growth.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Leadership & Development
- Act as a senior representative within the northern office
- Work closely with senior leadership to ensure cohesive project delivery
- Lead financial and resource planning for the team
- Monitor ecological and environmental policy changes and communicate impacts
- Identify and implement business improvement initiatives
- Support sustainable growth and promote company values
- Encourage innovation and maintain a positive, ethical team culture
Business Development & Client Engagement
- Promote the consultancy’s services to clients and partners
- Support and mentor staff with business development potential
- Help attract new clients and expand the company’s presence in the region
- Oversee bid and tender preparation
- Build and maintain relationships with partners, suppliers and subcontractors
Ecology Consultancy & Technical Delivery
- Lead the delivery of complex ecological projects
- Provide strategic ecological advice to clients and project teams
- Oversee project delivery, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met
- Act as peer reviewer for technical outputs
- Ensure high standards of health, safety and risk management
- Monitor project performance and report to senior leadership
Team Development & Line Management
- Provide leadership and direction to the northern ecology team
- Mentor junior staff and support skills development
- Ensure compliance with quality, health and safety, and professional standards
- Support wider company initiatives and cross-team collaboration
Desired Skills & Experience
- Strong field experience and technical capability
- Ability to work confidently on site with contractors and clients
- Excellent understanding of UK legislation and guidance
- Strong project management and commercial awareness
- High-quality report writing and communication skills
- Full driving licence
