Senior Ecologist Inverness

About the Role

A growing, mission-focused environmental consultancy (1015 staff) is looking for a Senior Ecologist to help lead their expanding team. This is a hands-on role with genuine autonomy - youll manage your own workload, support junior colleagues, and deliver varied fieldwork and technical reporting across peatland restoration, bats, woodland creation, and renewable energy projects throughout Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver ecological surveys and technical reporting (bats, habitats, peatland, GWDTE).
  • Provide occasional ECoW cover (training available).
  • Mentor and support a team of 23 ecologists.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and contribute to projects across wind, housing, and woodland schemes.
  • Travel to remote sites, including Skye and the Western Isles (air travel provided).

What Were Looking For

  • Experience in ecological consultancy or a related discipline.
  • Strong survey skills, data handling abilities, and high-quality report writing.
  • Confident leading small teams and mentoring junior staff.
  • Good understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning processes, and survey standards.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly (including flights to island sites).
  • Experience in renewables, housing, or habitat creation is advantageous.
