Principal Ecologist (Ornithology)

Location: Perth (Hybrid) Salary: £45,000–£55,000 + £6,000 car allowance

We’re looking for an experienced Principal Ecologist with a strong ornithology background to join our team in Perth. This role is primarily desk-based, focusing on project leadership, assessments, technical review and client support, with limited fieldwork.

What You’ll Do

• Lead ornithology and wider ecology projects.
• Oversee assessments (EcIA, HRA/AA, BNG).
• Review reports, technical outputs and survey designs.
• Provide specialist ornithology advice to clients and internal teams.
• Manage project delivery, budgets and timelines.
• Support business development and proposal writing.
• Mentor and guide junior and mid-level ecologists.

What You’ll Need

• Strong ornithology expertise (survey design, data interpretation, impact assessment).
• Experience leading ecological projects at Senior/Principal level.
• Excellent report writing and technical review skills.
• Solid understanding of EIA, HRA and planning policy.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Confident communicator with clients and stakeholders.
• Full UK driving licence.
