Permanent | On-site | Competitive Salary + Benefits
Are you ready to take full ownership of software engineering within a long-established and highly respected Scottish manufacturing business?
Our client, headquartered in North Lanarkshire, is looking for a talented Software Engineer to become the company’s in-house expert and trusted authority on all things software.
This is a unique opportunity to step into a standalone role where your work directly supports real-world manufacturing operations, streamlining processes and shaping how the business uses technology day-to-day.
About the Role
Working within the IT department, you will be responsible for the development, enhancement, and maintenance of a suite of in-house applications used across the business.
You will work end-to-end across the full lifecycle, from engaging with users and gathering requirements to designing solutions, building new features, documenting your work, and supporting deployed applications.
Most internal tools are built using React on the front-end, communicating with the company’s ERP system (BPCS) via a Spring Boot middleware layer exposing REST APIs.
This is a role for someone who enjoys autonomy, variety, and meaningful impact.

Developing and maintaining Java-based applications using Java 8 and Spring Boot
Building and enhancing front-end applications using React and JavaScript
Working with technologies such as Apache Tomcat, Git, Maven, and REST API development
Writing and maintaining unit tests with JUnit, Mockito, and PowerMock
Liaising directly with end users across the business to gather requirements and shape solutions
Creating both technical documentation and user training materials
Troubleshooting and resolving application issues post-deployment
Assisting the wider IT team with ad-hoc IT tasks
(Nice to have) Experience with Windows servers, BPCS, or RPGLE
Your background
Strong commercial experience with Java, Spring Boot, and REST API development
Confident front-end skills with React and JavaScript
Good understanding of relational databases
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
Comfortable engaging with non-technical users to gather requirements and support adoption
A proactive, collaborative mindset with a desire to take real ownership
Why Join?
Alongside a stable, friendly working environment and a role where you get to influence real change, you also benefit from:
35-hour week, finish at 12 noon on a Friday
Contributory Pension Scheme – 3% employer / 5% employee
Group Life Insurance
