Senior Ornithologist Glasgow

Full Time | Salary £35,000£40,000 DOE | Hybrid Flexible Working | Start ASAP

Role summary

Lead and deliver ornithological survey and assessment work for a busy ecology team based in Glasgow. Combine handson fieldwork with technical reporting, client liaison and mentorship to support project delivery across renewable energy, infrastructure, housing and habitat restoration schemes.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and run bird survey programmes including BBS, winter surveys, speciesspecific surveys, vantage point and offshore survey methods.
  • Prepare highquality survey reports, EcIAs and HRAs and contribute to tender documents.
  • Develop mitigation strategies and provide practical advice on avoidance, mitigation and monitoring.
  • Manage project workstreams including budgets, schedules and client communications.
  • Provide site supervision and ECoW duties when required.
  • Mentor and support junior ecologists and technicians.

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 3 yearsprofessional experience in ornithology within consultancy, contractor, NGO or regulatory roles.
  • Demonstrable competence across standard bird survey methods and survey data analysis.
  • Proven technical report writing experience for EcIAs, HRAs or planning submissions.
  • Eligible for or member of CIEEM preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to field sites across Scotland.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.
