Our client is a well-established and highly respected not-for-profit organisation seeking a Senior Finance Officer to join their Finance & Business Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong technical accounting expertise, a passion for continuous improvement, and the ability to build effective relationships across a complex organisation.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will play a key role in delivering robust financial control, reporting, systems management, and process improvement while supporting the development of the wider finance function.

The Role

Reporting into the senior finance leadership team, you will take ownership of a range of financial management, reporting and compliance activities, ensuring the organisation's financial processes operate efficiently and effectively.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Producing timely and accurate monthly management accounts and KPI reporting
• Coordinating budget variance analysis and management reporting commentary
• Supporting month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial processes
• Maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations
• Reviewing nominal ledger postings and overseeing financial reconciliations
• Managing fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals and depreciation
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Assisting with the annual statutory accounts and external audit process
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities
• Acting as the finance systems subject matter expert, maintaining system integrity and driving improvements
• Developing and enhancing finance policies, procedures and controls
• Providing guidance, mentoring and support to junior finance team members
• Managing banking arrangements and processing payment authorisations
• Liaising with external stakeholders including auditors, banking partners and advisors
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes and reporting
• Deputising for senior finance leadership where required

About You

To be successful in this role, you will combine strong technical accounting ability with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in a senior finance or finance officer position
• Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience
• Knowledge of financial controls, compliance and governance requirements
• Experience preparing VAT returns and supporting year-end accounts preparation
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong systems experience with the ability to act as a finance systems "super user"
• Experience supporting or mentoring junior team members
• Advanced Excel skills and strong accounting software knowledge
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines
• A collaborative and customer-focused approach
• A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for enhancing processes and service delivery
