£35,000–£45,000 + Bonus + Benefits
Boutique Environmental Consultancy (sub 10 headcount)
Are you an experienced Ecologist with strong ornithology expertise, looking for greater autonomy, flexibility and the chance to make a real impact within a growing consultancy? This role offers the opportunity to join a respected, ISO-accredited environmental practice with fewer than 10 staff, where your input will genuinely shape the direction of the ecology function as the business continues to scale through 2026.
About the Company
This boutique consultancy has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality ecological work across Scotland, particularly within the renewables and infrastructure sectors. With a growing pipeline of overhead line (OHL), wind, and wider infrastructure projects, they are now seeking a Senior Ecologist with ornithology experience who can take ownership of field delivery, reporting and client engagement while contributing to the development of the wider team.
The Role
As Senior Ecologist, you will:
• Lead and deliver ornithological and wider ecological surveys across Scotland, often in remote upland locations
• Manage field programmes, data analysis and technical reporting
• Support ecological assessments for renewables, OHL and infrastructure projects
• Work closely with clients, project managers and internal specialists to provide clear, practical advice
• Contribute to the growth and development of the ecology function
• Represent the business with professionalism, technical confidence and a solutions-focused mindset
This is a fully remote role, but during the busy season you should expect to be in the field for around three weeks out of every four.
What You’ll Need
• 5+ years’ experience in ecology with strong ornithology capability
• Schedule 1 licence holder (essential)
• Proven experience designing, delivering and reporting on bird and ecological surveys
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively to remote sites
• Experience in renewables, infrastructure or OHL projects (desirable)
• Ability to work independently within a small, high-performing team
What’s on Offer
• £35,000–£45,000
• Annual performance bonus (last year £1k)
• Paid training allowance for continued development
• Private healthcare
• Access to company vehicles
• Opportunity to influence and grow with a consultancy entering its next phase of expansion
• Supportive, close-knit team with strong reputation and ISO-accredited systems
