Senior Ecologist

£35,000–£45,000  Fully Remote (UK)

Are you an ecologist looking to apply your expertise across a diverse range of projects, with the support of an experienced national team? Do you want clear career progression, genuine flexibility and the ability to shape your own development pathway?

If you’re ambitious, collaborative and keen to balance technical growth with a healthy work/life rhythm, this could be your next move.

About the Organisation

You’ll be joining a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy with a national ecology team of over 90 permanent ecologists working across 13 offices. The business delivers projects across residential, energy, defence, transport, government services and more, with a strong reputation for high-quality ecological input and award-winning delivery.

The ecology team has received multiple industry awards for consultancy excellence and large-scale mitigation work. With a culture built on openness, collaboration and technical development, you’ll have access to specialists across ecology, planning, landscape, archaeology, engineering and placemaking.

The Role

As a Senior Ecologist, you’ll work on a wide variety of projects, supported by a national network of colleagues. This is a fully remote role, giving you the freedom to work from anywhere in the UK. You’ll still have access to office space when needed for collaboration, meetings or project work.

Your responsibilities will include:

•            Delivering and coordinating ecological surveys and assessments

•            Working closely with clients, colleagues and stakeholders across project stages

•            Supporting junior team members and contributing to technical development

•            Managing your own workload, including site work where required

•            Contributing to tenders, proposals and project planning (depending on experience)

Flexible working options - including reduced hours, compressed weeks and flexible start/finish times - are fully supported.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re particularly interested in ecologists with experience at Senior level who bring one or more of the following:

•            Bat Class 2 licence

•            Botanical expertise (ideally FISC Level 3 or above)

•            Ornithology specialism

•            Project management, client liaison or business development experience

If you don’t meet all of the above, or if your availability is later in the year, you’re still encouraged to get in touch - start dates can be flexible for the right person.

What the Team Offers

•            A national ecology team of 95+ working as one cohesive unit

•            Fully remote working supported by strong IT systems

•            Minimal time away from home

•            Car or car allowance for all ecologists, regardless of grade

•            Established TOIL system to support seasonal workloads

•            Clear career frameworks and structured progression routes

•            Internal and external training, mentoring and access to in-house experts

•            Incentives for achieving bat handling licences

•            Significant bonus for achieving Chartered Ecologist/Environmentalist status

•            Close collaboration with planners, landscape architects, engineers and other specialists

Way of Working

The organisation focuses on outputs, not inputs. While collaboration and occasional face-to-face time are important for project success, flexibility is built into the culture. Each team manages its own working style, ensuring colleagues can balance professional delivery with personal commitments.
