Senior Ecological Consultant

A leading UK environmental consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Ecological Consultant to support its growing portfolio of renewable energy and infrastructure projects in Scotland. About the Role
You’ll play a key role in designing and delivering ecological surveys, managing projects, and providing technical input across a wide range of developments. Working alongside specialists in ecology, arboriculture, agri-environment, landscape, planning, heritage, GIS and visualisation, you’ll contribute to some of the most interesting and impactful projects currently underway in the UK.
This role is ideal for an experienced consultant ready to step into a more senior, client-facing position within a supportive and multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, oversee and deliver a broad range of ecological surveys
- Manage projects using established internal project management processes
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders throughout project lifecycles
- Analyse ecological data and prepare high-quality technical reports
- Line manage and mentor junior colleagues
- Prepare fee proposals and tender submissions
- Support wider business development activity
Working Pattern
- Hybrid working model with two office days per week
- Travel required for site visits, client meetings and collaboration with other offices
- Full-time (37.5 hours), with flexible options available including part-time (minimum 30 hours)

- £35,000–£40,000 depending on experience

Essential Experience & Skills
- Strong understanding of UK wildlife, gained through education or practical experience
- Good knowledge of UK conservation legislation and policy
- Understanding of the development management process
- Broad experience in habitat and protected species surveys, including survey design and data analysis
- Experience preparing ecological consultancy reports (PEAs, protected species reports, EcIAs)
- Confident engaging with commercial clients and stakeholders
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel across the UK, including occasional overnight stays
- Flexibility to work occasional antisocial hours during peak survey seasons
Desirable
- Understanding of renewable energy consenting
- Experience line managing staff
- Protected species licence (bat licence particularly valuable)
