Senior Analytics Engineer
Hybrid Glasgow
Salary Up to £60,000
We’re looking for a Data Modelling specialist to take ownership of the layer that turns data into real business value.
This is not a dashboard-building role. It’s about designing the models, definitions and metrics that power reporting, decision-making and AI.
About the Opportunity
An established, data-driven business is evolving from reactive reporting to scalable, AI-ready data products.
With a strong Data Engineering foundation already in place, the missing piece is a senior, hands-on expert to sit above it — someone who can create governed, reusable data models and define how the business answers its key questions consistently.
What You’ll Be Doing
Own the semantic layer
- Build and maintain data models that transform raw data into consistent, business-ready datasets
Define core metrics
- Ensure key business measures (e.g. spend, savings, performance) are clearly defined and aligned across all tools
Create reusable data products
- Turn recurring requests into scalable, self-serve solutions
Enable AI-ready analytics
- Structure data so AI tools and copilots can return accurate, trusted answers
Drive automation
- Identify and eliminate manual reporting and repetitive analytical tasks
Champion data quality & governance
- Own documentation, lineage, and data standards
Provide technical leadership
- Set best practices and mentor others in the analytics space
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Strong experience with data modelling
- Advanced SQL skills, including optimisation
- Understanding of Kimball dimensional modelling and semantic layer design
- Expertise with Power BI including report and dataset development
- Proven ability to turn ad-hoc requests into repeatable, governed solutions
- Experience automating manual analytics processes
- Confidence using AI tools to accelerate and enhance delivery
- Ability to translate complex business questions into structured data models
Nice to have:
- Experience preparing data for AI / Copilot / natural language querying
- Background in complex data environments
- Mentoring or leadership experience
Why This Role Stands Out
- Genuine ownership of the analytics layer and data standards
- A chance to build systems that power AI-driven decision making
- High-impact, senior role with autonomy and influence
- Opportunity to shift a business from reporting → data products
Who This Role Is For
You’ll thrive here if you:
- Prefer building systems over one-off outputs
- Think in models, metrics and scalability
- Are passionate about automation, governance and data quality
- Want to shape how a business uses data — not just report on it
