An experienced payroll administrator, you'll form part of a small and dedicated payroll team with the added benefit of working within a larger group of finance professionals. You will be involved in data processing and checking, reconciliations, calculating statutory payments, producing and maintaining reports and dealing with queries.
As you will be working to tight deadlines, we expect you to have good prioritisation skills, and exceptional attention to detail, maintaining confidentiality at all times. In addition, you will be to be up to date with current legislation, including GDPR.
Salary on first appointment is normally to the bottom of the scale, although in exceptional circumstances an appointment further up the scale may be considered.
Requirements
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Payroll Manager/Assistant Payroll Manager.
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
No supervisory responsibility.
PURPOSE OF POST:
Assist the Payroll Team in the provision of an efficient and effective payroll service to the University and its employees .
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Process new starts, leavers, salary amendments, timesheets and various other payroll input.
- Check the input of other payroll administrators and reconcile payroll entries prior to payroll closure.
- Calculate statutory and occupational payments including SMP, SPP, SSP etc.
- Produce manual calculations when required.
- Pension scheme processing and reporting.
- Process and maintain absence records from department absence reports.
- Produce statistical and ad hoc reports using payroll reporting tool.
- Respond to payroll queries from employees and other departments.
- Maintain current knowledge of managed payroll software, department and University processes and procedures, relevant HMRC, pension and GDPR legislation.
- Any other appropriate duties which may be delegated from time to time.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
Standard grade or equivalent including English and Mathematics
Knowledge and skills
Knowledge of all payroll related processes and regulations
Good IT skills including use of Microsoft Office applications
Strong communication skills
Good organisation skills
Experience
Experience of working in a busy payroll department
Experience of working to strict deadlines and with a high level of accuracy
