This long-established, employee-owned environmental consultancy is looking for an Environmental Clerk of Works to join its expanding team. With more than 30 years’ experience supporting projects of all scales, the company works across the renewables, construction and infrastructure sectors to deliver sustainable, environmentally responsible outcomes.

As Scotland’s renewables industry continues to grow, the team is seeking motivated individuals with a passion for ecology, environmental compliance and working in some of the UK’s most spectacular landscapes.

 

The Role

As an Environmental Clerk of Works, you will play a vital role in ensuring environmental compliance across a diverse range of project sites.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out site inspections to monitor environmental compliance on construction projects.
  • Delivering Toolbox Talks on ecological and environmental topics.
  • Advising clients on ecological and environmental requirements.
  • Undertaking protected species surveys, habitat assessments and pre-construction walkovers.
  • Producing clear, high-quality ecological reports and species protection plans.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors and stakeholders to provide practical, evidence-based advice.

 

 

 

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Experience conducting ecological field surveys.
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations, with support from the wider team.
  • Flexibility for occasional unsociable hours (e.g., bat surveys, night work).
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, professional approach.
  • Willingness to work away from home when required.
  • A positive attitude and good sense of humour.

Desirable:

  • 5+ years’ experience in ecology or environmental roles, including EnvCoW work.
  • Protected species licences (e.g., bats, badger, Schedule 1 birds, otter, freshwater pearl mussel).
  • CSCS card.
  • Tree-climbing qualifications.
