After graduating university and trying out a few jobs in customer services, sales and hospitality, Katy still hadn't found the job that was right for her. A friend mentioned trying out recruitment and when a role in education recruitment came up Katy gave it a go…
Katy said: “I was a bit apprehensive going into a recruitment job as I expected it to be a bit clinical and impersonal, but at Vision for Education, it genuinely hasn't been this way. I am very proud to work for Vision for Education because of the level of respect and support they give to candidates, schools and staff. I've done nothing but flourish here because of their values, ethos and support.”
Katy started her role without any recruitment experience, yet she has still had a glowing career. “When I started, at the time I didn't feel that I was ready and I was quite shy, but the company were really supportive and gave me a Resource Consultant role that allowed me to build my confidence in the recruitment process and increase my knowledge of the different disciplines within education. As my confidence grew, I was given an opportunity to work on a SEND desk as a Consultant, at this point I knew I was ready for the challenge and knew this was the area I really wanted to work in.”
Katy had found the job that was right for her, and two years later was promoted to SEND Divisional Manager. Katy is so pleased she took a chance on a career in education recruitment because it allows her to make a difference to people's lives: “I get to match fantastic people with amazing schools. This goes hand-in-hand with making a difference to the pupils' lives too. Vision for Education encourage us to go out and volunteer at the schools we work with, which gives me an in-depth understanding of their recruitment needs and challenges so I can make those matches even better.”
At Vision for Education, we want all our staff to be successful and work in a role that they love. So, we listen to our staff and give them time to grow in a supportive team atmosphere. And that's how Katy has found a career she loves and made a success of it. She said: “I found that as long as you stick with the principals that we live by at Vision for Education, you are prepared to put in some hard graft and be a team player, success will naturally follow. That's what happened to me and now I have a genuinely fantastic career.”
