Jack White started as a trainee consultant at Vision for Education in our Liverpool branch and within 3 years was promoted to senior consultant, then most recently to assistant branch manager. Here's how with hard work, support from a fantastic team and a business that takes pride in nurturing talented staff, Jack rose through the ranks.
Jack has always had an interest in the education sector; before starting work at Vision for Education, Jack completed his PGCE and NQT year and thoroughly enjoyed being a primary teacher. He'd also had some experience in recruitment, so when a role came up at Vision for Education that would combine both his teaching and recruitment experience, it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.
Jack tells us about how he decided to work for Vision: “I'd already worked as a supply teacher for a short time after finishing university, so I knew recruitment was an area I enjoyed working in and because I understood the intricacies of how schools work, the role sounded intriguing. But it was the ethical principles underpinning Vision's ethos, of wanting to make a positive difference to the lives of teachers, schools and the children they worked with that really stood out and enticed me to apply for the job.”
Moving from primary teaching into education recruitment was just the start for Jack. He went from strength to strength and within 3 years became an assistant branch manager. He mentions how he got there: “I wouldn't have been able to progress like I have without the support from my manager Kieran, my team and our director. I can honestly say I work with some of the nicest people who care about the job they do. They have been on-hand to offer support at branch level, give advice on how to make calls and attend business visits, and how to attract and retain candidates. And I don't think there is anyone that knows more about the market than our director Darren. I've learnt so much from him and he has always been on-hand to give advice about different strategies to grow my desk.”
Jack has reaped the rewards from the hard work he has put into the job. But it's not just climbing the career ladder that rewards him, helping teachers, support staff and schools, makes him proud of working in education recruitment.
“I recently worked with a candidate who was at a bit of a cross-roads in his teaching career. After having an in-depth conversation with him about what he was passionate about, I managed to find him a unique role as an ICT specialist primary teacher. Very quickly he secured himself a permanent contract and I couldn't be more thrilled for him.”
At Vision for Education, we support all our staff to succeed and be the best they can be by providing on-the-job training, professional development, and other opportunities unique to the staff members' individual career goals. We take pride in nurturing talented staff, just like Jack: “At Vision for Education, the office is filled with ambitious, yet truly caring staff and it's this supportive atmosphere plus, being given the freedom and flexibility to access opportunities, that has helped me achieve far more than I would have ever expected.”
