An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Test and Development Design Engineer to join a high-performance engineering team at the forefront of motorsport innovation. This role is ideally suited to a design engineer with a hands-on mindset and a passion for supporting vehicle testing and development activities, specifically the Vehicle Test Team and the Compressed Suspension Programme.
You will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, delivering smart and practical design solutions that support test rig development, test instrumentation, and experimental hardware used in vehicle and component validation.
Key Responsibilities
-
Design and develop test and development hardware in support of the Vehicle Test Team and compressed suspension programme, including rigs, fixtures, instrumentation brackets, surrogate components, and associated assemblies.
-
Work closely with test engineers, vehicle dynamics, and suspension designers to ensure that development hardware meets functional, structural, and packaging requirements.
-
Provide rapid turnaround of CAD models and drawings to meet dynamic test and development schedules.
-
Generate detailed engineering drawings and BOMs using Siemens NX or CATIA V5/3DX, ensuring manufacturability and clarity for workshop teams.
-
Support on-site test events and component installations as required, providing engineering input and resolving real-time issues.
-
Assist with root cause analysis, instrumentation integration, and design changes based on test data and feedback.
-
Maintain high standards of documentation and configuration control throughout the development process.
Required Skills & Experience
-
Proven experience in a mechanical or test-focused design engineering role, ideally within motorsport, automotive, or aerospace environments.
-
Strong CAD proficiency in Siemens NX or CATIA V5/3DX, with the ability to work quickly and accurately under tight time constraints.
-
Practical understanding of vehicle systems, particularly suspension components and associated test requirements.
-
Experience designing test rigs, jigs, surrogate parts, and experimental hardware.
-
Confident working alongside test engineers, technicians, and build teams in a hands-on development environment.
-
Knowledge of mechanical testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems is beneficial.
-
Able to interpret and respond to live feedback from test activities with engineering solutions.
-
Flexible, proactive, and capable of juggling multiple projects in a high-pressure environment.
