Position Overview


The Director of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure regulatory compliance, drive operational efficiency, and oversee the organization’s financial operations. Reporting to the CFO, this role is pivotal in maintaining fiscal integrity and supporting the organization’s mission through sound financial management.
Primary Duties

  • Oversee accounting and general ledger activities, guiding the finance team under the direction of the CFO.
  • Ensure accurate preparation of financial statements, complying with governmental, funding, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage financial transactions, assign appropriate classifications for income and expenses, and coordinate with the CFO.
  • Administer payroll systems to meet organizational needs and comply with tax, insurance, governmental, and retirement regulations.
  • Oversee fiscal and budget allocations for grant applications, ensuring compliance with funding agency requirements.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to recommend improvements to financial processes and general ledger management.
  • Support department heads with monthly budget reviews, variance analysis, and program reporting.
  • Lead, train, and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of teamwork, professional growth, and accountability.
  • Prepare and oversee the annual external audit, ensuring compliance and transparency in financial disclosures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • 5-7 years of experience in accounting, government grants, and budgeting.
  • Strong proficiency in financial software, with extensive knowledge of Excel and experience in system conversions.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting, budgeting, fiscal management, and GAAP.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local funding terms and conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, engaging personality.
